Sri Lanka, throughout decades has been famous for her great variety and abundance of gem minerals. Due to the high quality and uniqueness of the gems found, it earned the name “Ratna Deepa” which means Gem Island. From deep within layers of gravel and sand, in river beds, marshes and even at the foot of hills in Sri Lanka, gemstones such as Blue Sapphires, Cat’s Eyes, Alexandrites, Rubies, star stones and many more are found. Generally throughout the whole world gem mining methods include more capital intensive, machinery type extraction of gravel to examine for gems. But in Sri Lanka traditional methods which includes more labour is used to ensure the nature (agricultural aspects) are not affected.
To ensure customers that this process is explained and experienced, we created our own model mining illustration within our company.
